The application of crop growth simulation model of rice for scheduling irrigations in the Kaudulla irrigation scheme area in Sri Lanka is described. The applicability of the model for conserving water by better use of rainfall and rotational irrigation schedules is examined. Irrigation scheduling when water supply is inadequate is also considered. The model predicts that near potential yields are realizable with proper scheduling of irrigations even when water supply is limiting.
