The Soil Conservation Service USDA/SCS, concentrates it's technical assistance to cooperators on improvements of on-farm irrigation systems and improvements of water management to provide more efficient use of the finite water supplies. A Farm Irrigation Rating Index (FIRI), (Hedlund et al, 1985), (Spofford, 1984) has been developed by the SCS West National Technical Center (WNTC). This is now being published as an SCS - WNTC "Technical Release." This analysis procedure will provide consistency in the assessment of on-farm irrigation water use. The SCS - WNTC Technical Release on FIRI, provides a much more detailed explanation of the procedure and display of the supporting information than is presented in this paper.
