A methodology for forecasting the health impact of proposed reservoirs is outlined. A simple reservoir model is described and an index of the extent of potential vector habitat around reservoir margins is proposed. Further components of the overall methodology require development based on detailed field studies and it is intended to use the completed model to compare impacts of small and large scale irrigation reservoirs.
