Daily ET, leaf area index, and dry matter accumulation were predicted using CERES models for maize, sorghum, and winter wheat grown at Bushland, Texas to determine the models' suitability for water management simulation. The potential ET equation should be more responsive to low and high evaporativity. Initial results from wheat indicate excessive sensitivity to water stress. Stress predictions should accelerate vegetative development and LAI senescence. Water stress prediction needs additional evaluation, for additional crops and under moderate stress conditions.
