The author assesses two irrigation project situations to examine the roles that women play in different stages of project implementation and in various activities of the irrigator's associations. She finds that beyond what formal records reveal, women show interest in programs affecting the household's economy. When allowed or encouraged to participate, women had considerable impact on the success of development projects.
