The microcomputer based Management Information System, INCA is a tool developed to give the managers of main canal systems accurate and timely information about actual field conditions. The INCA software is described in detail, defining the agricultural and hydrological data held within the database and describing the use of the software to schedule irrigation releases, monitor actual releases within a canal network and plan water allocations before a season begins. The authors also describe a number of further modules which are under development which will broaden the application of the software to include quantitative performance assessment, maintenance planning and hydraulic simulation.
